Carpet Removed and Concrete Floor EnhancedBy Khara Dizmon, ConcreteNetwork.com Managing Editor
In Chino Hills, Calif., Liz March, a creative stay-at-home mom opened up a new business called Click Studio. The photo studio provides themed booths which include a green screen for unique backdrops for group photos and video clips. Without a large budget, she wanted to remove the existing commercial carpet and create a decorative design floor that would be easier to maintain.
Glen Roman of Staintec used Newlook Stains to enhance the floor to achieve a "acid stain" type look "We came in with grinders," he explains, "and we did a rough grind to get the glue off and to profile the concrete for the stain application." Roman used Newlook (Sierra solid color stain) for the base color on the floor and then used enhancers Spanish Clay, Buffalo Brown, and Terra Cotta. Roman's technique is to create random splatters with multiple colors of the enhancers then using water to blend and fade the colors together. "The client liked the wild color effect," he says. "The enhancers are antiquing, translucent fluid. When you use the enhancers on a smooth floor, it's like faux finishing," he says. The 1100 sq. ft. floor was sealed with Seal-Tec 25, a low VOC solvent-based high-gloss acrylic sealer, then a mop down wax was applied as a maintenance program. Staintec |
