Intricate Patterned Floor—Dyed and Polished
"This was a typical concrete slab we started with," says Chris Swanson with Colour in Placerville, CA. "We first ground the floors with 40 grit metal bond diamonds. After 150 grit metals, we densified with a lithium-based densifier from Versaflex. Next we moved through 100, 200 and 400 grit resin bond diamonds. Then after cleaning the floor we started the transfer of the design from paper to the concrete." Having worked out the design in the weeks prior to starting the project, "we chalked out portions of the design and then cut them making our way around the room," explains Swanson. "Once the design was completely scored into the floor, we started masking off areas and applying Ameripolish's dyes. We used various application techniques and multiple colors to give the floor areas a natural marbling of color. It's difficult to see in the photos, but in person one can see that the floor has many different colors to make up what appears to be solid colors. We then filled the joints with dark filler and proceeded to complete the polishing. After the floor was cleaned, we burnished in two coats of polish guard and took some photos."
